The Story
One night in 2020, Bo Coppinger's wife rushed him to the ER. He wasn't having a heart attack. A CT scan found something else: a baseball-sized mass on his left kidney. At 4am, under fluorescent lights, a doctor told him it was probably cancer. It was. Stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
What followed was years of appointments that ended in confusion. Twelve-minute visits with specialists who spoke in terms Bo had never heard. Lab reports nobody translated. Medications that multiplied. Bo started recording his appointments on his phone and sitting in parking lots afterward, replaying what the doctor had said, trying to piece it together with his wife.
Then he started feeding the transcripts into AI to generate structured recaps: the questions he forgot to ask, the action items no one assigned to anyone. It worked. And he thought: every patient should have this.
So Bo (a software developer and stage 4 cancer patient still in active treatment) built Bubo.Health: an AI-powered health companion that records doctor visits and generates instant recaps, charts lab results over time, tracks medications, and lets patients ask questions and actually get answers. He didn't build it as a business. He built it because he was drowning and needed a lifeline, and had just enough technical skill to build one. Bubo is now available to everyone navigating the complexity of serious illness.

What Bubo Does
- Visit Recorder: Records doctor appointments (with consent) and generates an AI recap: what was discussed, what to follow up on, questions you forgot to ask
- Medication Tracker: Logs every medication by dose, time of day, and purpose; tracks 7-day adherence
- Lab Results: Import panels from a photo, PDF or patient portal; every test charted over time against the reference range printed on the user's own report
- AI Health Chat: Contextual Q&A using OpenAI models; draws on the user's medications, conditions and recent labs, and does not diagnose or advise on treatment
- Emergency Card: Shareable critical health info (medications, allergies, blood type, emergency contacts) accessible in seconds
- Care Team: Organizes all providers in one place with specialty and contact info
- Appointments: Tracks visits and links to Visit Recorder for seamless pre/post-appointment flow
- HealthKit Sync: Reads health data from Apple Health, with the user's permission; never writes to it
