One night in 2020, Bo Coppinger's wife rushed him to the ER. He wasn't having a heart attack. A CT scan found something else: a baseball-sized mass on his left kidney. At 4am, under fluorescent lights, a doctor told him it was probably cancer. It was. Stage 4 clear cell renal cell carcinoma.

What followed was years of appointments that ended in confusion. Twelve-minute visits with specialists who spoke in terms Bo had never heard. Lab reports nobody translated. Medications that multiplied. Bo started recording his appointments on his phone and sitting in parking lots afterward, replaying what the doctor had said, trying to piece it together with his wife.
